Helping people to help themselves where they are

Since 2001, AACO has been working with XLP; a charity working with young people in over 30 schools and communities across Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley, Tower Hamlets and Newham. Whilst much of the work is based in the schools, XLP also works on a number of estates using both community facilities and XLP’s own double-decker bus facility that has computer equipment for homework support upstairs, and a youth “chill” space downstairs. Thanks to Patrick Reagan and XLP £21,000 was raised through Spring Harvest for the construction of the Jubilee Senior High School. XLP continues to support AACO in many ways such as developing and managing the Jubilee Senior High School student sponsorship programme and taking mission teams of young people from London to Ghana each year.

In 2005, The Charter School became a sister school to Jubilee Senior High School. They are one of the most successful inclusive schools in London and support AACO in many ways including sending student development teams, assisting with curriculum development, and working to improve teaching methods and monitoring.  Additionally, the Friends of the Charter School programme raised £5,000 to provide solar energy to Jubilee Senior High School.

Spring Harvest the event began as a one week event in Prestatyn in Wales in 1979. Over more than 30 years, Spring Harvest has grown into a multi-resort event, also running conferences for Youthworkers and others as well as a beautiful holiday park in the west of France. In 2004 the offering from Spring Harvest was donated to AACO for building Jubilee Senior High School, providing the funds that made the vision for the high school a reality.
